Reddit users want water purifier machines to be more affordable, according to survey
The first wave of Reddit users to join the “I need to have a water purification machine” group on Reddit, which aims to bring more people to the site, wanted to be able to have access to cheaper machines.
They wanted to have the option to buy one for less than $30, said Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian.
But it wasn’t clear how many of them would actually use the machines.
Reddit also had more than 100,000 users when it launched in May.
The group had been gaining traction on Reddit and on other sites like Twitter.
Reddit users are often reluctant to speak out against big companies because they fear backlash.
Ohanian and other Reddit executives have said they would have no problem if large companies like Walmart or Google paid for the machines, but not all companies have made a profit on them.
Walmart did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Ohani told Recode that he and his team would continue working to improve the machines and eventually make them more affordable.
They also want to make sure they don’t break down and cause damage to homes, businesses and pets, he said.
The water purifiers have become popular because they’re easy to use and can provide enough power to run appliances, he added.
The devices, which are also called air purifiers, can be made from batteries and run on tap water, or can use natural gas.
Users of Reddit say they want them to be as cheap as possible.
A survey by the Consumer Reports group found that people were willing to pay $30 for an air purifying machine, with most saying they would consider buying one for under $25.
The survey found that 70 percent of Redditors who responded said they wanted the machines to have built-in filters, and a majority said they’d like to have filters installed on their homes or businesses.
Reddit has a history of helping users get their voices heard on issues like the Keystone XL pipeline, gun control and climate change.
Ohan said Reddit would look into how to make the devices more affordable for users.
Reddit started the group because users on the site want to be heard, he explained.
“I’m not sure if they’re going to succeed in their goals, but it’s the goal to have more voices,” Ohanian said.
